We are excited to announce that we have several new members to our family:
New York area
Los Angeles area
As the executive director, I’ve been going through Linkedin to identify and invite prosecutors of Korean descent to join us. We are the only organization of prosecutors of Korean descent formed for networking, education, mentorship, and public outreach. We have memberships in 8 countries. We were formed in 2010 and have grown at an unexpected rate. In 2015, the Korean government hosted our International Criminal Conference in Seoul, Korea. We sent 70 KPA members to attend the conference. Scholarships were provided to pay for the flight and lodging expenses. We have an MOU with their Prosecution Services to network and share information. The Korean government has agreed to host our international criminal conference in Korea every three years. The next conference will be in May 2018. KPA has chapters in both US and Canada. We are constantly looking for new members and potential geographic locations to set up additional chapters.
KPA is a California Bar certified Continuing Legal Education provider. We provide our members with CLE at conferences, seminars, and pre-recorded videos, available on our members’ website. Most of our CLE credits are accepted by jurisdictions across US, check with your area to determine reciprocity with CA.
KPA provides mentorship to our members; but more, to law students and law graduates seeking a career in public prosecution. We provide notices for employment. We are constantly building relationships with prosecutors’ office across US to encourage hiring of more KA attorneys. Along with social networking events, we have provided seminars on getting internships at local prosecutors’ office. We plan to do a workshop on preparing for job interviews. Additionally, we are excited about offering future opportunities for law students: e.g. scholarships and paid internship/externship with prosecutors’ office.
KPA is heavily invested in our communities. We offer public outreach in the areas of juvenile crime/abuse at schools, elder abuse, domestic violence, and more. We work with law enforcement agencies, social organizations/service providers, and media to provide information regarding public safety.
I invite you to join the only organization that caters to prosecutors of Korean descent across the globe. We are constantly working on providing more service and opportunities for our membership. We encourage our members to go beyond their current status and to look for future possibilities. Our membership includes the first elected Korean-American prosecutor in US, John Choi, Ramsey County Attorney. Our members have become judges and entered private practices. Our organization may be limited in its membership size, but not in its capabilities. We dare to dream and at its core, we serve the public by bringing justice.
KPA Justice Foundation was formed in 2015 to support KPA’s educational and mentorship programs. In addition, its think-tank component received a grant to publish an extensive legal paper on digital evidence. Recently, it received a second grant to research the relationship between prosecutors and law enforcement agencies in the US. The Foundation receives public and private support to “Empower those who protect our lives.”
This is who we are, and we encourage you to join us. There’s an online application at www.koreanpa.com. Please contact me for further information, firstname.lastname@example.org
